Terms of Use

The rules for using SchoolCAD, in plain English. Last updated 3 November 2026.

1. About these terms

1.1 SchoolCAD is run by Sine Surf Pty Ltd, an Australian company based in Sydney, New South Wales, trading as SchoolCAD ("we", "us", "our").

1.2 These terms apply to anyone who uses the SchoolCAD app (at schoolcad.app and the school addresses we provide), this website (schoolcad.com) or the SchoolCAD Community forum (forum.schoolcad.com). Together we call these "SchoolCAD".

1.3 By using SchoolCAD, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

1.4 If you are under 18, a parent, guardian or your school should read these terms and agree to them for you. Teachers and schools who ask students to use SchoolCAD confirm that the school allows it.

1.5 The SchoolCAD Licence is part of these terms. If a school has a signed agreement with us, that agreement wins where it differs from these terms.

2. The free app

2.1 SchoolCAD is free for students and teachers to use for designing and learning. There are no accounts in the free version.

2.2 Your designs are saved in your web browser on the device you use, and in any file you save. We don't keep a copy. Clearing your browser's data, using a different device or a school computer that resets can lose designs, so save important work to a file.

2.3 We're always improving SchoolCAD, so we may add, change or remove features, or pause SchoolCAD for maintenance. We'll try to give notice of big changes, but we don't promise that SchoolCAD will always be available or free of errors.

3. Your designs

3.1 Designs, drawings and files you make with SchoolCAD belong to you (or to whoever owns them under your school's or employer's arrangements). We don't claim them.

3.2 A share link or hand-in file contains your design and anything you typed into it, such as your name or class. Anyone with the link or file can open it, so only share it with people you mean to.

3.3 You are responsible for having the right to use anything you import, such as pictures, drawings or models made by someone else.

4. School plans

4.1 School subscriptions, custom presets, school addresses and any paid services are provided under a separate written agreement or quote. That agreement sets out fees, what's included and how school data is handled.

5. Using SchoolCAD responsibly

5.1 You must use SchoolCAD lawfully and in a way that suits a school setting. You must not:

  • (a) design, or help anyone design, a weapon or part of a weapon, or anything meant to hurt people or damage property;
  • (b) share designs, names or text through SchoolCAD that are offensive, bullying, discriminatory or that break someone else's rights;
  • (c) attack, overload, probe or disrupt SchoolCAD, or try to get into parts of it you aren't allowed into, including school spaces and their sign-in;
  • (d) use bots, scripts or other automated tools to access, scrape or copy SchoolCAD; or
  • (e) suggest that you are SchoolCAD or connected with us when you're not.

5.2 On the forum, only school staff may post, and the forum's community rules also apply.

6. Making things safely

6.1 SchoolCAD helps you make drawings, templates, cut lists, laser files, 3D print files and other files for machines, as well as estimates such as mass and cost. These are aids for learning, not professional engineering advice.

6.2 Before you make anything, check the sizes, materials, machine settings and file with your teacher or a qualified person. Always follow your school's workshop safety rules, your teacher's directions and the instructions for each machine.

6.3 Subject to section 11, we are not responsible for injury, damage to machines or materials, or wasted materials that result from using a file or setting without checking it first.

7. Our intellectual property

7.1 SchoolCAD, including its software and code (minified or not), design, interface, lessons, tutorials, presets, help pages, audio, translations, artwork and logos, belongs to Sine Surf Pty Ltd, apart from the third-party parts in section 7.4. It is protected by Australian copyright law and, through international treaties, in almost every other country.

7.2 We let you use SchoolCAD in a web browser, as described in these terms. That is the only permission we give. Unless the law expressly allows it, you must not:

  • (a) copy, save, download, mirror or host SchoolCAD's code or content, or make your own version of it;
  • (b) decompile, de-minify, de-obfuscate or otherwise reverse engineer SchoolCAD, whether by hand or using automated or artificial intelligence (AI) tools;
  • (c) use SchoolCAD or anything taken from it to train, fine-tune or prompt an AI model, or to generate code or content that reproduces or imitates it;
  • (d) use SchoolCAD, or what you learn by examining its code, to build or improve a competing product;
  • (e) sell, license, share, frame or republish SchoolCAD; or
  • (f) remove or change any copyright notice, licence notice or trade mark.

7.3 SchoolCAD™ and the SchoolCAD logo are trade marks of Sine Surf Pty Ltd. You may not use them without our written permission, except to refer to SchoolCAD accurately.

7.4 SchoolCAD includes open-source components, such as OpenCascade and three.js, used under their own licences. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences. They're listed on our About page.

7.5 Nothing in these terms takes away a right that the law says can't be excluded, including the exceptions in sections 47B to 47F of the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). Those exceptions may only be used for their stated purposes.

7.6 If you breach this section, we may take action in any country, including asking a court for an injunction, damages or an account of profits, additional damages for flagrant infringement, and our legal costs, and sending takedown notices to anyone hosting a copy. Section 7.2 is set out in more detail in the SchoolCAD Licence.

8. Feedback

8.1 We love hearing ideas from teachers and students. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve SchoolCAD without paying you or owing you anything for them.

9. Privacy

9.1 The free app has no accounts and doesn't send your designs or personal information to our servers. Share links and hand-in files stay with the people you give them to.

9.2 Like every website, SchoolCAD is delivered and protected by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which processes technical information such as IP addresses to serve pages and block attacks. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

9.3 The forum collects the details staff give when they register. School plans with accounts will come with their own privacy terms before they launch. Our Privacy Policy has the details.

10. Other websites and services

10.1 SchoolCAD may link to other websites and resources. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or how they handle your information.

11. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law

11.1 Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes those guarantees or any other right or remedy you have under law that can't be excluded.

11.2 Apart from those rights, and to the full extent the law allows:

  • (a) SchoolCAD is provided "as is" and "as available", without any other promise or warranty;
  • (b) we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for lost data, designs, time or profit; and
  • (c) where the law lets us limit our liability for failing to meet a consumer guarantee, our liability is limited to supplying the services again, or paying the cost of having them supplied again.

11.3 If you use SchoolCAD in breach of section 7, you are responsible for the loss and costs that your breach causes us, including reasonable legal costs.

12. Suspending or ending access

12.1 We may block or end anyone's access to SchoolCAD, or any part of it, if they breach these terms or to protect SchoolCAD, its users or others.

12.2 Sections 3, 6, 7, 11 and 14, and anything else meant to continue, keep applying after your use of SchoolCAD ends.

13. Changes to these terms

13.1 We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with its date, and point out important changes on this website. If you keep using SchoolCAD after a change, the new terms apply. If you don't agree with them, stop using SchoolCAD.

14. Governing law

14.1 These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. The courts of New South Wales and the Federal Court of Australia can hear disputes about them. We may also ask any court, in any country, for urgent orders to protect our intellectual property.

14.2 If any part of these terms can't be enforced, it is read down or removed only as far as needed, and the rest of the terms still apply. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we haven't given up our right to enforce it later.
